Karma - (BFF161)

BFF 161 - Instant Karma - A topic prompt.

Karma - Defined by Encarta Dictionary means:
1.      actions determining future state
In Hindu and Buddhist philosophy, the quality of somebody's current and future lives are determined by that person's behavior in this and in previous lives
2.      atmosphere
the atmosphere radiated by a place, situation, person, or object
3.      destiny
destiny or fate

In addition to the definitions in the dictionary, the thesaurus adds: chance, providence, fortune, luck, coincidence, and accident to the list. It's my nature to tear things down to the bones, and attempt to understand their intended meaning from the ground up.

A wordsmith builds on words they understand, and understanding is a process, not a place that we magickally arrive at, so it is likely that anything we "understand" will alter with awareness. It must be why so many people who have been given the lamp of wisdom to carry, understand, that they know little, about anything.

People refer to karma in many ways; although; most will concede to some kind of balancing blackboard that keeps track of wrongs and rights, and pays them back in triplicate. Karma becomes the homeostasis of universal morality. Who then decides what is "right" and what is "wrong", and what measure of karma is doled out, and to whom? The simplistic viewer will consider it to be a payment for whatever measure of pain the person caused them. It's not that simple.

If karma is the balancing ruler of what is meant to bring us to a more complete understanding of something, then it must also take into consideration that "pain" for some is the only method they will learn by. Is that to say that pain would be tucked off into a "bad" category by all people? Likewise, pleasure could be considered a bad thing, if the pleasure a person was seeking brought them to their own destruction. The scales are complicated, interwoven, and expansive.

It is my belief that what we do to another, we quite literally do to ourselves. We are all of one energy, all sharing one colony, in a colony of cells, housing colonies of cells. The Universe will move toward homeostasis, it's the nature of nature. Whatever that balance is, will manifest. It is my challenge to accept, and attempt to understand my part in that equation. It is my responsibility to share what I believe to be a positive influence, on those people I interact with. If karma were a video, and you could see what your actions, and deeds manifest as down the road a ways, it might surprise you. As for me, and my karma we do the best we can.

can.

  1. I am a big believer in the karma accounting system. For ever plus there is minus, good, bad, high, low, etc., I try to pay forward as often as I can to accrue credits. :-)

    1. To be the best we can be, is the most that we can ask of ourselves. I like the "pay it forward" kind of method. I don't know that I use it to accrue credits, but it could well be some kind of bank, or accounting system. :-) Thanks for the insights Brenda.

  2. Nice take on Karma! I especially like the idea of whatever we do to others, we do to ourself! Whether good or bad action/words - we do do them to ourself as well.

  4. Good insight. Very interesting theory. I've never thought a lot about karma but your explanation makes sense. I definitely believe in being the best person we can be and doing unto others as we would have them do unto us.

  5. Excellent! I see karma in much the same way you do. Everything is of one energy and how we impact that energy is how we impact ourselves and the world.

  7. I think a video of our actions would be a surprise. A lot of times we do things without realizing the reality of it or how someone could interpret our words differently. I believe in karma--either in this life or the next one.

    1. Every once in awhile I get glimpses, that are like little clips, and it makes me pause. But to see a complete picture of how one action is manifested into the many that it touches, like a ripple in a pond, would be fascinating (and probably terrifying). Thanks for making me part of your blogging rounds:-)

    1. If a small butterfly flapping its wings can cause a tidal wave half way around the world, it would be silly of us not to make a connection that we do make a difference in the world around us.
Think about what we might accomplish as a collective bunch, all heading in the same direction on any given topic! Marvelous fodder for words :-)
