Drive On

It's time again for the 100 word song challenge brought to us by Lance at myblogcanbeatupyourblog. How this works is that each week we are given a song to inspire us; it becomes our muse, our prompt. Then with exactly 100 words we write. You could give it a try, I think it is a fun way to exercise control over the amount of words used. It gives me a stopping point before I start... and it's a whole lotta fun!

This week's song is Jefferson Starship's Runaway, here's my inspiration:

She kept her thoughts tucked beneath his baseball cap, there was no sense in ruining this perfectly magickal moment with a dose of reality. Maybe if they ran away now, they could continue to touch the stars every time they made love.

"Eddy, can we just runaway somewhere together, right now?"

"Ah baby, you know I want to be with you, but how would we live?"

She didn't answer him, she knew it would change everything, and she liked the moment she was in. The back of the pick-up truck carried the weight of her world, wrapped in his arms.

  1. Those magical moments were so magical because they were a little forbidden. A sweet nostalgic story.

    1. Thanks Tara... it's funny how music can just pick a person up and move them back into a moment so far away.

  2. "Maybe if they ran away now..." I love the way you followed this with that age old wish to have something everlasting. It really reminded me of a me that no longer exists. I think. Great job!

    1. Thanks t. The song threw me into that time frame like it was still part of my life. It's been a long time since I felt that way, made me miss it just a bit.

  3. Everyone has that moment with that girl or that guy in their life, don't they? You're young, stupid, free, and full of wonder.

I like being in her head, under that baseball cap, thinking that moment was the epitome of her years on earth. Makes me appreciate my teenage's daughter's exuberance and ridiculous fanwing over her friend who is a boy.

    really well written, great interpretation

    1. I sure hope they do Lance. They shape us, change us, and remind us later of where "love" in our own definitions began.

Your daughters are lucky to have a father that is so in tune with the way a female mind works. Very lucky indeed.

Thank you for the visit :-)

  4. Very nostalgic, indeed. It made me smile a little differently at my hubby right now. :)
