The Waiting~ (100 Word Song)

Lance at the 100 Word Song Challenge asks you to write 100 words (no more, no less) in whatever genre, or fashion you are inspired to write in, using the song of the week to get you there.
This week's 100 Word Song challenge inspiration is
Mumford and Sons "I Will Wait"

I thought about this song for a long time as I listened to it over and over again.  It would have been wonderful to create a tasty love story from the lyrics that would make a heart warm, but my mind had images of lovers that were kept from one another because of a war they didn't own. The following is my inspiration from Mumford and Sons' song "I Will Wait" for Lance and Leeroy's 100 Word Song Challenge:

The Waiting~
A strained voice ties tears to raindrops on a forgotten bench where busses caravan hollow passengers from one place to another. Whispers of hope bounce off of bone walls, as grey matter chases parched promises. She’s heavy with desire to believe, down on her knees.

He holds on to a rose that she once held; captivated by familiar smell, his life is hell. Closed eyes meet with memories, she’s the only light he sees, when he’s down on his knees.

Cross an open ocean say the two,
“Will you wait for me? You know, I will always wait for you.”

  1. such a sad scene. You painted the two beautifully. I can picture them on opposite sides of the world, whispering their promises

    1. Thank you Carrie. I am glad that it comes across well. Sometimes I wish I could dictate what my mind draws out in the characters, but when I push too hard they dissipate, as though their lives were taken away from them by my insistent redirection. Most often now, I give way to the original vision, and let it be what it will be.

      Thank you for stopping in!

You constructed a love story in 100 words. That's just straight awesome. Great 100

  3. Beautiful. Just beautiful. The wars that we wage, summed up in a few 100 words. Perfect, my friend.
