Last Day of August

The last day of August brought with it hints of fall, manifesting in crisp, cool morning air. You can feel the slowing of the day in people when the air begins to cool. It's like the frantic parade of summer heat prods them into activity, and lack of it removes their initiative. School has already started, so the raucous activity that is generally the beginning of a summer day, is quelled by the slighter sounds of nature, like the small birds that look too big to sit atop a flower without making it fall over, but do.

Whatever fall brings with it, I look forward to the quieting of the world, the slowing of movement, and the wonderful changing of colours as nature itself prepares. Today is just the first glimpse, I am sure there will be many others. While my neighbors and friends complain out loud about their summer ending, I will quietly embrace the wonderful changes that bring fall into focus.
