    1. Yes, it is. My brother has called me "Keeper of Secrets" for a very long time. I find ways to diffuse :-)

  3. I think we find that as we get older, secrets are no longer the fun of giggling kid talk and whispered conversations. It gets complicated. I feel for her!

    1. Well put Sandra. The perspective really does change with time.

  4. I have things that I will carry to my grave that may have helped others but hurt me. Life isn't fair, is it, K?

This was perfect to use in the shorter writing form. What's not said here is equally strong as what is said.

Thsi is one of my favorite pieces from you because it affected me, emotionally.

    1. I think that all things in this world seek homeostasis naturally. But during those moments that are most difficult to silence the noise, inside, or outside of a mind scattered with secrets, it is not always easy to remember that. Fair? Nope, I think not.

That is a truly inspirational comment. To touch the hearts of others with words is what we hope for, to have touched yours is a bright spot. You have touched mine many times with your words... and the heart beneath them.

  5. Ugh, I can relate to this. When a friend starts out with "if I tell you this can you promise not to say anything?" I sometimes fight the urge to say "no". Invariably, I listen.

    1. I know that feeling well. It's really a fine line, because sometimes a person needs to be able to speak up, and have someone they trust listen... but it can be a weight.

  6. Very clever to put it into exactly 33 words. Not easy! My first time here, btw, and I love your Joyce Carol Oates quote.

    1. Nice to meet you Sim.

The Trifecta Challenges come out twice a week. Once during the week we are given a prompt that is the third definition of a word from Merriam Webster's online dictionary. From that prompt we are to write 33-333 words. Then on the weekends we are given a prompt (not sure what this one is based on) that we generally have to write a 33 word story from. This one is called Trifextra. It's a great way to exercise the ability to be concise.

I love the gentle strength found in Joyce Carol Oates' words... this quote is one of my favorites.

    1. Thank you Mark. 33 words makes a person stick to the core of things. :-)

  9. More, more! I want to hear more! You captured what I call "the plutonium moment." When someone gives me information so hot or toxic it feels like handling plutonium and I desperately want to pass the burden on to someone else.

  10. You've captured beautifully the difficulty of keeping an uncomfortable confidence. And in only 33 words. Nice job. Hope you can join us for the weekend challenge too.

  12. Having a secret you don't want to keep is a terrible feeling -- you captured it beautifully.

  13. I've been in this position a few times. It's very hard to be a person that others confide in sometimes, especially when it changes how you feel/look at them. Well written K!

    1. Mags, I've gotten used to being that person. Those of my friends that spend any time with me in public have witnessed the encounters from total strangers, who feel comfortable enough to just tell me their life stories... in libraries, cafe's, card shops, grocery stores, etc... I quit questioning why they do it, but I have gotten pretty good at compartmentalizing those things which are kept in confidence.

  14. Your entry reads like the Cliff's Notes version of mine ... http://wp.me/p1LoLK-1BC. You're much more economical with words than I am. I am my mother's child.

    1. Hehehe... but you wield them well ODNT. I will skip on over in the morning, I'm starting to dwindle in attention and energy tonight, and I don't want to miss something good. :-)
