A Quiet Sunday Afternoon

She woke early, while the chill was still crisp in the air outside. Windows open wide to let all of the cool in, fresh, while it lasted. Summer wasn't over yet, and after a couple of hours the windows would all be shut again, to contain the cooler air within. It was a ritual she was grateful to be awake for, but all of her wanted to sleep.
The staccato cat-speak got louder and more frequent while she peeled open a can of food for them to eat. They looked forward to the early morning hours too. Soft fur spindled between her legs, appreciation, or impatience? She couldn't be sure, but pretended it was their love for her.
Still half asleep she prepared a pot of coffee, added a bit of hazelnut to the grounds for a sweeter aroma in the house, and started the daily chores.
"It's a quiet day" she said to herself.
